Officials in Petty Township petitioned the Lawrence County, Illinois Board yesterday seeking to replace a bridge on the Old Petty School Road.
County Board Chairman Bill Gray told board members the structure is in bad shape.
It was remodled back in 1980, but Gray says the bridge has been abused by traffic over the years.
Board members approved a contract with Charleston Engineering to do the design work which calls for replacing the bridge with a box car culvert .
The bridge is eligible for federal and state reimbursement. The county’s share of the project is 10-percent.
