The City of Bicknell is starting to make some progress in the elimination of blighted homes in the community.

Mayor Tom Estabrook says the city received a 415-thousand dollar state grant to help cover demolition costs.

Speaking on WVUT’s 22-Magazine, Estabrook acknowledged acquiring titles to some of the targeted homes has been difficult.

The original deadline for completing the work was April. but due to difficulties being experienced by other communities in property acquisition, Estabrook says the state pushed that timeline back to August.

He says the goal is to clean the properties up and eventually return them to tax rolls.

The city has partnered with the Bicknell Bulldog Development Corporation to maintain the properties once the homes have been torn down.
