The Department of Workforce Development says the state’s unemployment rate in June was 4.8%, down from the May rate of 5.0%.

More than 8,500 private sector jobs were added last month, with most of them in Leisure & Hospitality and Private Education and Health Services (2,600 in each sector), the department said. The biggest losses in June were in Professional & Business Services (-2,300) and Manufacturing (-1,300).

The Department also says the state’s labor force – those of working age who are employed or actively looking for jobs – reached an all-time high of more than 3.373 million in June. Among states that border Indiana, only Michigan had a lower unemployment rate at 4.6%. The national unemployment rate is 5.5%.
