The Vincennes Indiana Police Department (VPD) has issued a statement warning about a law enforcement phone scam targeting citizens in the city and Knox County. The scam spoofs the department’s non-emergency phone number (812-882-1630). The caller pretends to be a dispatcher and asked the person called to contact a named detective through a fake phone number about an ongoing investigation. THIS IS THE SCAM. Do not call the cell phone number given! The statement goes on to say that the VPD does not operate in this manner and would use only the official police line, never a private number. Anyone receiving this type of scam call is asked to contact the Vincennes Police Department so it can be documented.
