The Lawrence Public Library Board met in regular session Tuesday evening at the library in downtown Lawrenceville. They moved to make an initial $5000 deposit for a subscription to Hoopla, a service which will allow for the expansion of additional digital offerings such as movies and streaming services to patrons who come to the library without waiting. It is hoped that the new Hoopla service will be up and running near October 1st. Upon the recommendation of it’s personnel committee, the board approved staff salaries and wages for fiscal year 2024 including raises ranging from 4 to 6%. Also approved was a tentative operating budget for fiscal year 2024. That spending plan will be formally approved after a public hearing scheduled for the upcoming September meeting. It was also announced that former Illinois congressman Glenn Poshard is scheduled to be at the library on Tuesday August 22nd as part of his book signing tour of southeastern Illinois.
