The Illinois State Police (ISP) have announced the arrest of a Jasper County man in connection with the death of another Jasper County man in early June. On June 8th, a male subject identified as 59 year old Terry Eastep of Newton was discovered critically injured at a residence on Marion Street in Newton. Eastep later died as the result of those injuries. The ISP Zone 8 Division of Criminal Investigation was brought in to assist local authorities looking into the death. Monday, the Jasper County States Attorneys Office officially charged 30 year old Paul Schoonover of Newton with five counts of First Degree Murder, a Class M Illinois Felony and two counts of Aggravated Battery, a Class 3 Illinois Felony for the killing of Eastep. He was taken into custody and was being held pending bond in the Jasper County Jail.
