EFFINGHAM BANK ROBBERY

One man is in custody after an attempted bank robbery late Friday morning in Effingham. Effingham Police responded just before 12 p.m. Friday after getting a 911 call from an employee at the 5/3rd Bank at 200 East Jefferson Avenue. Upon arrival, they were able to able to arrest the suspect without incident. He has been identified as 45 year old Bradley Bennett of Effingham. Reports indicate that Bennett entered the bank and approached a teller with a note demanding money and indicating he was armed. A weapon was found on Bennett at the time of his arrest. He has been preliminarily charged with Aggravated Robbery, A Class 2 Illinois Felony and was being held in the Effingham County Jail. There were no injuries to any bank employees or customers.
