On April 01, 1953, the baby of the family arrived at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. His name was John David Forsythe, the son of Norval and Eleanor (Legg) Forsythe of Sumner, Illinois. He passed away peacefully at his home, in his sleep on Sunday, July 16, 2023, with his companion Penny Hayes at his side, after a brief cancer diagnoses.

John attended public schools. He had a lot of jobs during his lifetime, from oilfield to driving semis, last but not least, he was a laborer for Local 1197. He also helped build prisons, schools, and bridges in the area. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force. His memberships included the Olney Eagles, the Olney American Legion, and the Bridgeport Moose; and he enjoyed socializing at the Liars Bench in downtown Sumner. John will be missed by many, but know he is in a better place. So long John ‘Rabbit’, until we meet again.

Preceding him in death were his parents; paternal and maternal grandparents; one brother, Mike Forsythe; and one sister, Jennifer Forsythe.

Survivors include his companion, Penny Hayes; two children, John Forsythe of Florida and Miles Lytis of Iowa; two sisters, Diane Moore of Smackover, Arkansas and Susan Weatherly of Florida; three grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the funeral home to assist with the funeral expenses by mailing to PO Box 564 in Lawrenceville, Illinois 62439. Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois is charge of the arrangements.
