SUMNER CITY COUNCIL

The Sumner City Council met in special session Thursday evening and after a long discussion, voted 4-3 to move forward with building a new approximately $1.2 million City Hall at 224 South Christy Street. The tight vote occurred after concerns were expressed regarding the fiscal status of the city regarding this project and two other future major infrastructure projects dealing with water line replacement and sidewalk replacement. With the council voting 3-3, Mayor Betty Brian, who has been a longtime proponent of the project cast the deciding vote in favor. The council did issue citizen surveys asking their opinions on the project and those were returned with  21 in favor and 12 not in favor. The building will be funded through general fund monies and it is anticipated that if all goes well, the construction could be completed sometime in early 2024.
