The Lawrenceville City Council met in regular session Thursday night at City Hall and took a number of actions regarding infrastructure projects. They approved the firm of HMG from Breese Illinois to provide the engineering work for the planned wastewater treatment plant project. A resolution was approved to use COVID funding to pay for the Lexington Street project and a bid of around $688,730 was accepted from Kiefer Brothers in Mt Carmel for the 10th Street water project. After hearing a recommendation from Utilities Superintendent Aaron Tipsword, the council approved the purchase of a liquid chlorine scrubber mandated by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA)for the city water plant at a cost of $24,000. Also during the session, Mayor David Courtney presented former mayor and city clerk Don Wagner with a Key to the City for his long service. Following the disposition of business, the council did reorganize with the swearing in of re-elected and newly elected members. Sworn in for new terms were incumbents Duane Volkman, Victor Fritch and Heather Hayes. Russell Goins was also sworn in as a new councilman replacing Jep Blacketer.
