The Waltonville Spartans pushed across a run in the top of the 8th inning on a fielders choice groundout and made that stand up as they beat the Red Hill Baseball Salukis 6-5 in 8 innings Friday at the Tank Farm in Bridgeport. The Salukis led 4-2 heading into the 6th inning behind Bryce Gross who started. Garrett Moorehead relieved him and gave up a run in the 6th and 3 more in the 7th with Waltonville taking the lead 5-4. The resilient Salukis then tied the score at 5 on a run scoring wild pitch in the bottom of the 7th but could get no more. The Spartans scored 6 runs on 6 hits with 1 error while the Salukis scored 5 times on 6 hits with 2 errors. Moorehead had 2 hits for the Salukis while Gross added a hit and RBI, Peyton Seaney 1 hit and RBI and Dylan Aten 1 hit and RBI. Moorehead took the pitching loss. The Salukis had a four game winning streak snapped with the loss and are now 12-4. The Flora Tournament scheduled for Saturday was cancelled so the Salukis will next see action Monday as they host Bluford/Wayne City in a first round game in the Midland Trail Conference Tournament at 5 p.m. CDT at the Tank Farm.
