The National Weather Service (MWS) says that there is a heightened danger for fire across southwestern Illinois and southwestern Indiana. A warm airmass has settled in over the area and this warmth combined with dewpoints dropping to low relative humidity values and southwest winds of 20 mph with higher gusts and dry vegetation will create conditions favorable for sporadic rapid fire spread. People are discouraged from any sort of outdoor burning and cooking during the period. Also improperly discarded cigarettes can also start fires which could spread quickly.
