The Lawrenceville Basketball Indians quest for the Lawrence County Capital Classic Tournament title came up short Saturday night. The Tribe were beaten by the defending champion Olney Tigers 48-42 in the championship game in Bridgeport. The Indians trailed 12-9 after one quarter and 26-17 at the half. The Tigers used a 16-0 run midway through the contest to assume control at 39-27 after three quarters and then held off an Indian rally down the stretch to pick up the six point win. The Indians were led by three in double digits-Maddux Pargin with 15, Bryant Jenkins with 11 and Parker Hardiman with 10. Both Pargin and Jenkins along with teammate Landon Sanders were picked for the All-Tournament Team and injured Indian senior Leyton Ivers was named a special Honorary All-Tournament selection. Ian Winkler of the Tigers was named the tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP). The Tigers become the first team since Teutopolis in 2009-10 to win back to back BCC championships. With the loss, the Indians are now 2-1 and will begin Little Illini Conference (LIC) play Tuesday night at home against the Paris Tigers. The game will be heard on Lite 103 WAKO with Steve Anderson and Bill Richardson at around 7:30 p.m.
