Both the Illinois and Indiana State Police are underway with extra enforcement patrols for the Thanksgiving holiday period. Both agencies say those traveling can expect to see extra patrols and roadside safety checks to help keep the highways and byways safe. People are urged to use their safety belts, travel at safe speeds and avoid drug and alcohol impaired driving. Statistics indicate that 12 people died on Illinois roads during the 2021 Thanksgiving Holiday weekend and 12 people also lost their lives while traveling in Indiana during the 2021 Thanksgiving weekend.
