SCHOOL BUS SAFETY

Students in Lawrence County and the surrounding area will soon be heading back to school later this month and that means school buses will be back on the roads taking students to and from their various schools. As both students and parents prepare for the new school term, Regional Office of Education #12 Superintendent Monte Newlin reminds drivers to stop for school buses. More than 200 law enforcement agencies plan to take part in the back-to-school Stop Arm Violation Enforcement (SAVE) campaign. They will be increasing patrols in school zones to help prevent stop-arm violations, speeding, and reckless driving around school buses. Drivers are also reminded to be aware of speed limits, distracted driving and children walking in residential areas near schools.
