Mary Lou Gognat, age 78 of Lawrenceville, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022 in Vincennes, IN at Good Samaritan Hospital. The first of ten children, she was born June 19, 1943 in St. Francisville to Edward Joseph Gognat and his wife, Gertrude Alice (Patterson) Gognat.
Growing up, Mary help raise her younger siblings as the caring and doting older sister. She was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and had worked for the Reynold’s Factory manufacturing car seats. Mary enjoyed camping, fishing, knitting, and was very good at crocheting.
Family members left to remember Mary include: four sisters- Corita Glenn, Wilma Johns and husband David, Marie Sanders and husband Gary, and Jane Couch all of St. Francisville: one brother- Mark Gognat of Mary of Allendale: twenty nieces and nephews: and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents: two sisters- Virginia Breen and Agnes Gognat: two brothers- James Gognat and George Gognat: one niece- Elizabeth Ann Johns: and one nephew- Gary Wayne Sanders, Jr.
Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, May 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville. Visitation will also be at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in St. Francisville. Cunningham Funeral Homes will be handling arrangements.
