Cases of COVID-19 across Illinois increased by 39 percent this past week. That according to figures released by the Illinois Department of Public Health Monday. More than 19,000 new infections were reported across the state. But there is good news regarding the situation. The IDPH says that most of the state remains at low risk for transmission of the disease including Lawrence County. According to the latest Lawrence County Health Department numbers, between April 18th and April 22nd, there were only 2 individual cases reported in the county. Four counties-DuPage, Champaign, McClean and Piatt counties are considered at medium risk and the elderly and immunocompromised are being advised to wear masks while in indoor public settings in those areas. No statewide masking mandates are currently being considered. State and local health officials continue to stress the importance of getting vaccinated.
