Reports out of Jefferson County Illinois indicate that Ray Tate of Hopkinsville Kentucky formerly of Lawrence County was captured in an attempt to escape from jail this past weekend. The Jefferson County Sheriffs Department says that Tate managed to get out of his cell early Sunday morning  and was attempting to get out when he was found and taken back into custody by a jail correctional officer without incident. It was determined that no other prisoners were involved in the escape attempt. Tate was being held there awaiting sentencing Friday April 22nd after pleading guilty to First Degree Murder in the shooting death of Wayne County Sheriffs Deputy Sean Riley. Additional charges could be brought against Tate after review by the Jefferson County and Wayne County States Attorneys Offices.
