Omer Kenneth Griesemer

Omer Kenneth Griesemer, age 89 of rural Olney, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Carle-Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney. He was born in Lancaster on February 22, 1932 to Clarence and Lottie (Gerber) Griesemer.

On January 9, 1956, Omer married Gaye Dawn Smith in Corinth, MS. They were married 61 years, raised a family of four children, and made many beautiful memories. Gaye preceded Omer in death on December 3, 2017.

As a young man, Omer served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He then earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a long-time employee and manager for the cable company in Olney known as Sasquehanna. He was a member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church, American Legion of Olney, and Masonic Lodge of Olney.

Surviving family includes: four children- Cheri Taylor and her husband Terry, Ken Griesemer and wife Teria, and Jon Griesemer and wife Amanda all of rural Olney, and Don Griesemer of McLeansboro: six grandchildren- Mandi Pokojski, Dusty Earnst, Josh Griesemer, Carson Griesemer, Tara Griesemer, and Layne Griesemer: three siblings- Garnet, Helen, and Dale: and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents- Clarence and Lottie Griesemer: wife- Gaye Dawn Griesemer: siblings- Glen “Red”, Ethel, and Roy: and two grandchildren- Jesse Earnst and Niki Turner.

A funeral service will take place Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at the Otterbein United Methodist Church Cemetery south of Claremont. Military rites and Masonic rites will be given.
