State, area and local law enforcement authorities are once again warning about an increasing influx of counterfeit money in the hectic last days of shopping before Christmas. There are reports that once again fake $20 and $100 bills are being discovered at many business locations across southeastern Illinois. The bogus bills do have differing serial numbers, but are recognizable by the different paper, texture, color and centered images on the bills. Businesses throughout Lawrence County and the surrounding area are urged to be vigilent for the fake money and use counterfeit detection methods. Any fraudulent money discovered should be confiscated and the nearest law enforcement agency notified.
