Authorities in Effingham County have announced the positive identification of a male body discovered dead in the Little Wabash River south of Effingham in mid-September. The body is that of 25 year old Ladonte Ealy of Dayton Ohio. 2 kayakers on the river discovered the body on the river bank September 18th and notified police. Ealy was pronounced dead at the scene. Because of the condition of the body, an extensive investigation by the Effingham County Coroner and Illinois State Police using DNA and dental records led to the identification. Investigation revealed that Ealy had been released from the St Louis County Jail on September 1st. How he ended up in the Effingham area is still under investigation. Autopsy and toxicology test results are still pending and the cause of death remains undetermined.
