Starting Sunday, the Federal Communications Commission has announced that anyone making a local call in Illinois including Lawrence County will have to dial the area code first even for local calls due to a systems change involving implementation of a new national suicide hotline. Phone numbers are not being changed, but anyone who tries to dial local without the area code will be informed that the call cannot be completed as dialed.
