Paul married Charlotte Johnson on October 7, 2000 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Illinois.
After college Paul was a farmhand working for a few different farmers. He transitioned into working on John Deere tractors and fell in love with John Deere. He became a truck driver and worked for Wayne’s Trucking off and on for over 15 years. Paul retired as a diesel mechanic working on big rigs, but soon returned to doing what he loved.
Paul was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where he played guitar and sang in specials. He enjoyed spending time with his church family and going on mission trips, including one to Costa Rica.
He loved spending time with his very large family going on outings and doing large get togethers. Paul Ray would do anything for anyone and spent his free time helping out his family and working on their vehicles as well. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be sorely missed.
Surviving family includes: both parents- Lee and Rita Burchfield of Illinois: his wife- Charlotte Burchfield of Illinois: two daughters- Penny Mercer and her husband Ray of Florida, Charity Frizzell and her husband Tim of Illinois: six step-children- Elsie Glosser of Missouri, Natascha Higginbotham of Alabama, Hope Autebury and her husband John of Illinois, George Slawson and his wife Alexis of Missouri, Robert Slawson of Illinois, Chasity Hough and her husband Terry of Illinois: two grandsons- Jacob Mercer and his wife Stevi of Illinois and Samuel Frizzell: three granddaughters- Abby, Claire and Emma Frizzell: two brothers- Mark Burchfield and his wife Melinda of Missouri, Carl Burchfield and his wife Caroline of Illinois: four sisters- Julia Walker of Indiana, Pamela Barber and her husband Robin of Florida, Eva Fleming of Illinois, Nanette Dunn and her Husband Gerald of Illinois: Many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Paul R. Burchfield will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bridgeport. Burial will follow later at Pollard Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday evening at Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Cunningham Funeral Homes will be assisting the family.
