The city of Bridgeport now has a new Ward 1 alderman. The city council Tuesday night approved the appointment by Mayor Tyler Griffin of Kevin Biggs to the vacant seat for a two year term. He was sworn in and seated during the session. Approved after a public hearing prior to the meeting was the annual Appropriation Ordinance for Fiscal year 2021-22 governing city spending. Mayor Griffin updated the council on the ongoing city sewage lagoon project. City leaders are asking residents to fill out and return recently circulated water survey forms which will help in efforts to improve the city water system through grant and other financial applications. The council did enter into executive session for about 20 minutes and emerged to say that applications are still be taken for the vacant city employee job and interviews with applicants are planned in the near future.
