The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 4,979 new and probable cases of coronavirus across the state Thursday with 123 additional deaths. The latest Lawrence County Health Department figures show 6 more COVID-19 cases Thursday bringing the county total of positive cases to 2,250. 130 of those are active with 2 people still in the hospital. 2,092 people have recovered from the disease. 2 more deaths have been added to bring that total to 28. Overall since the pandemic began, there have been 1,086,333 cases and 18,520 deaths statewide. The IDPH reports a total of 572,389 people have now been vaccinated in Illinois with 34,649 doses administered Thursday. The LCHD continues to schedule local individuals for vaccination clinics in the future through a registration link on its Facebook page and website. Appointment times per clinic are limited for those in the current Phase 1-A and 1-B categories with the county supply of vaccine varying depending upon state delivery. Vaccine supplies have been scarce not only locally, but statewide and nationwide. Also Region 6 which includes Lawrence, Richland, Clay and other surrounding counties has been returned to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan. Phase 4 allows gatherings of 50 or fewer people and restaurant and bar openings at 50% capacity or less with local public health guidelines. Wearing of masks and social distancing is recommended.
