There is another phone scam in the Lawrence County and surrounding area. Authorities say the scam involves people being called at home and on their cellular devices by a person saying that their Social Security Number has been cancelled and no longer exists. The caller then asks for the number in order to verify that it has been cancelled. THIS IS A SCAM. The Social Security Administration says they never contact anyone by phone only by mail. Anyone who recieves this type of call should hang up and notify law enforcement. Alway remembers to never give out pertinent personal information to anyone over the phone.
