Harold L. Smith, age 95 of Lawrenceville, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. He was born to Angelo and Kittie (Conour) Smith on August 17, 1923 at the family home in Bridgeport.

On December 28, 1946, Harold married Anna Ruth Stansfield. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2005.

Harold graduated from Bridgeport Township High School and entered into the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he served our country during World War II. Upon returning home, he made a career at Texaco Refinery as a pumper and gauge operator. He worked at Texaco until his retirement. Harold and Anna were long-time members of the First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, and a 50+ year Mason. Harold was a huge sports fan. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons participate in their sporting events. He also rooted for the Illini, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs. Bird hunting was another sport Harold enjoyed.

Surviving relatives include: his three sons- Robin Smith of Lawrenceville, Scott Smith of Lawrenceville, and Curtis Smith of Herrin: and three grandsons- James, Logan, and Evan Smith.

He was preceded in death by: his parents- Angelo and Kittie Smith: one son in infancy- Scott Allen Smith: and two brothers- Correl and Russell Yetman.

The family of Harold L. Smith would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Samantha Potts, the Supinie family, and the Newbold family for the extra care and compassion given.

A graveside service will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 in Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Cunningham-Young Funeral Home in Lawrenceville from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with Masonic rites at 10:45 a.m. Military rites will be given at the cemetery.
