Washington Police Chief Mike Healy has announced his retirement.

Healy has spent a total of 38 years on the force.  He served as chief under Mayor Dave Abel’s second administration.  He was appointed chief again when Mayor Joe Wellman took office for his first term.

Healy told the Washington Times Herald he doesn’t want to make a big deal out of retiring, he said after 38 years it’s time to move on.

Healy has been very active in mission work to Haiti and will continue to be involved in that cause.

Until city officials name a new chief, Assistant Police Chief Todd Church has been appointed acting Chief.  Healy’s retirement is affective on Monday.
