Members of the Knox County Council last night paid tribute to councilman Steve Thais who died last month.

The council presented members of the Thais family with the Sycamore of the Wabash Award in Steve Thais’ memory. David Thais says the award was a fitting tribute to his late brother.

The Sycamore of the Wabash Award is given by the council to an individual who goes beyond the call of duty for the greater good Knox County.

Also in attendance was Ed Thais who says his brother cared for people and would go out of his way to help someone in need…

No word yet on when a replacement to fill  the late Thais’ seat on the council will be named.

An inter-local agreement creating a Dog Park at Hillcrest Park was approved by the Knox County Council last night.

Parks Superintendent Rhama Sobhani says the agreement between the County Commissioners and the County Parks Board will allow the dog park to be built on 2-point-5 acres where the former Hillcrest Building once stood..

Sobahni says initially they plan to create two fenced in areas. One for smaller dogs and a second pen for larger breeds. Sobahni says they hope to add other fixtures including toys for the dogs to play with and picnic tables where pet owners can sit.
