Preservationists in Vincennes are working to save two 19th century homes that have fallen into disrepair.
The Vincennes Knox Preservation Foundation hopes to acquire and fund the restorations of the two houses, one of which was built around 1845 with early French-style architecture.
Local historian Richard Day tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial reports (http://bit.ly/1cpUlx0 ) that house may have been moved around 1920 to its current location.
The other house was slated to be razed by city officials, but Indiana Landmarks appealed the city’s decision.
Indiana Landmarks’ Tommy Kleckner says that home is still “solid” with “many of its historic features still intact.”
It was built during the Civil War by 19th century Vincennes Mayor Henry Somes.
