Laura Ariel, Director of the Vincennes Animal Shelter, went before the Knox County Council Tuesday evening to request $20,000 to help add on to the city’s animal shelter.

Ariel is requesting $20,000 from both the Knox County and Vincennes City Councils to help fund the $100,000 project. $60,000 has already been provided through a private grant.

The animal shelter was built approximately 20 years ago and though they are funded through the city, Ariel says the shelter provides services for the whole county.

Ariel says the construction plans include adding on 800 square feet of space. Ariel is looking to build a new reception area, add an updated exam room, and a multipurpose room that can be used for various functions such as meetings, tours, and training.

Ariel will present her plans to the city council in two weeks.
