The City of Vincennes has hired its first reserve police officer.

Frank Medlen Junior was sworn in by Mayor Joe Yochum during a special noon time meeting of the Vincennes Board of Works Monday. Medlen served in the Army National Guard. He has previous police experience serving as a reserve officer on the Bicknell Police Department.
Police Chief Dusty Luking says he hopes to have five reserve officers in place before the end of the year. The reserve officers have the same authority as regular police officers except they are not paid. Luking says that Medlen will be required to undergo additional field training before he is certified to work the street. Luking says reserve officers will assist with patrolling, traffic control and providing security at special events in the city.
