Gennell Elaine (Hamilton) Smith, 69, Vincennes, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Gennell was born August 28, 1946, in Vincennes, the daughter of Clarance Thomas and Rachael Linda (Parish) Hamilton. She married James Allen Smith in 1981. She was a retired home health aid at Crestview Nursing Home and was a housekeeper for Good Samaritan Hospital. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a former Eucharistic Minister.
Gennell is survived by her husband, James; daughter, Lorie Allen and her husband Rossey of Vincennes; grandchildren, Rossey Allen of Gilbert, AZ, Ryan Allen of Vincennes, C.J. Flick of Freelandville, and Scott Flick of West Columbia, SC; great-grandchild, Emily Flick of West Columbia, SC; sisters, Shirley Pry of Vincennes and Virginia Smith of Vincennes; and brother, Jack Hamilton of Bruceville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Trudy Curry and Cynthia Niehaus; sisters, Penny Petts, Betty Lancaster and Katherine Eakins; and brothers, Dick Hamilton and Clarance Hamilton Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Vincennes Chapel, 313 Church St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00PM also on Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. David Fleck officiating. She will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
