Helen I. Thomas, age 97, of Bridgeport, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Aperion Care in Bridgeport, Illinois. She was born on September 21, 1925 in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Hurlie Dean and Dorothy Beatrice (Shawver) Reasor. She married Kenneth ‘Skip’ Thomas on June 27, 1958, and he preceded her in death on May 06, 2022.
Helen was a homemaker, and worked at JCPenney in Lawrenceville in her earlier years. She enjoyed traveling, camping, crocheting, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and two sisters, Bernadean Thomas and Zola Faye Reasor.
Survivors include two children, Dr. Darin Thomas and wife, Amber of Chrisney, Indiana; one daughter, Kimberly Ash and husband, Jerry of Bridgeport, Illinois; one sister, Bonnie D. Johnson of Schererville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Rebekah Parker, Joshua Thomas, Rachel Thomas, Alisha Ash, and Brenton Ash; and two great-grandchildren, Delaney Rose Drummond and Zion Parker.
A celebration of life will be conducted on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM CDT at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM CDT at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Waggoner Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Chauncey Crossroads.
