The first Friday each February, American Heart Month, the nation comes together, igniting a wave of red from coast to coast.
This is a time to spread awareness in hopes to help eradicate heart disease and stroke in millions of women all over the nation.
Do you know what the risk factors for heart disease are? They include smoking, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, overweight/obesity, physical inactivity, diabetes, family history of early coronary heart disease, and age (for women that is 55+).
Heart disease is largely preventable.
Here is what you can do now to reduce your risk:
Don’t smoke
Eat for heart health
Aim for 30 minutes of physical activity at least 5 days a week
Ask your doctor to check your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose
So this Friday, February 5th, Lawrence County Memorial Hospital is GOING RED and they are asking you to join! Throw on that red sweater, maybe a jacket, hat…. whatever it takes! Let’s go RED!
