The Illinois Department of Agriculture has announced the return of poultry shows for the 2023 fair season in the state. The influx of avian influenza cases forced the cancellation of in-person junior and open poultry shows in 2022 at county fairs and the Illinois State Fair with only virtual shows being held. However, with a decline in cases over the last several months, the decision was made to lift the ban on shows at the fairs, giving young exhibitors the opportunity to show their birds in person. The Illinois county fair season kicks off on May 30th in Greene County. The Illinois State Fair runs from August 10th through the 20th.
