Mr. Conny “CW” Ray Wright, 75, of Robinson, crossed over to the banks of Jordan at 1:59a.m. Saturday March 25, 2023, and was met by his angels who ushered him up to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ from Deaconess Gateway Hospital, Newburgh, IN following a long period of declining health.

Conny was born February 20, 1948, one of ten children to George Lucas and Ruby Helen (Lewis) Wright in Springfield, Kentucky. Conny started his working life as a gas station attendant at Ft. Belvoir, VA, where in the latter part of July 1967 met the love of his life, Mary, and volunteered for the draft to the U. S. Army in October 1967. After completing basic training and Advanced Individual Training, he was immediately sent to South Vietnam in March 1968, where shortly after arriving in country, he received a severe head wound (rifle shot) on September 3, 1968, and thereafter was honorably discharged with a medical disability in April 1969. Conny spent 7 months in Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington D.C. learning how to walk and talk due to his injuries. Conny and Mary were married on September 20, 1969, being married for 53 ½ years until the Lord called Conny home. Conny’s faith was deep rooted in God and never shied away from sharing with people that it was only by the Grace of God that he returned from his Combat Duty in Vietnam. While he was a member of the US Army he received the following rewards: 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Silver Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, 1st Award; Sharp Shooter.

Conny loved working with his hands, he’d work on anything but loved mostly to work on cars and their engines. He then turned to doing body work some of which involved knocking out the dents on the stork car that his kids really enjoyed driving/smashing. Conny restored several vehicles over the years that followed until he lost the ability to see things clearly enough to work on them. Because of his love of horses, he purchased one or two and did all of the farm things necessary to take care of the horses- you know the “farmer wanna be”. Conny enjoyed going to gospel music sings especially enjoyed Mr. Gospel Sax (Reggie LaFaye) as well as other gospel groups and attended Pearl Chapel Church. Among his memberships were the Disabled American Veterans, VFW and former member of the American Legion. He was not one to complain about his handicap or to shy away from doing anything because of it, he just dug right in and took it on. He generously helped others when asked never asking for anything in return. He lived by the Golden Rule “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
