Daniel D. Piper, age 87, of Bridgeport, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born on December 13, 1935 in Vincennes, Indiana, the son of William Robert Piper and Pansy Belle (Dunahee) and Joseph Carroll. He married Thelma L. Hayes on April 06, 1958, and she preceded him in death on November 28, 2021.

Daniel served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He worked for GTE for 15 years, owned and operated Piper Grocery Store in Decker, Indiana, was a truck driver for 22 years, and delivered prescriptions for Scott’s Drug in Bridgeport. He was a member of the American Legion and a former Mason with the Masonic Lodge of Olney. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He enjoyed reading and watching Westerns, hunting, fishing, treasure hunting with his metal detector, golfing, solving cross word puzzles, as well as dancing with Thelma at local clubs.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; one brother, William Robert Piper; and one granddaughter, Wendy Marie Price.

Survivors include two daughters, Christie Schuyler and husband, Doug of Sumner, Illinois and Dawn Crackel and husband, Craig of Bridgeport, Illinois; one brother, Thomas Piper and wife, Thelma M. of Olney, Illinois; and two grandchildren, Sam Crackel and significant other, Eric Mosier and Lyndi Crackel.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 1:00 PM CDT at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be on Monday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM CDT at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
