The Lawrence County Sheriffs Department (LCSD) has a new member in the fight against crime locally. Sheriff Trent Masterson told WAKO News that a one and a half year old German Shepard named Lucian has joined the department as a K-9 officer. He and his handler, Deputy Daegan York recently completed their six week training at St Louis and are now on duty. The dog and it’s training were financed through a grant received by the LCSD. Lucian is fully certified with the State of Illinois as a dual purpose narcotics detection canine also trained in tracking and apprehending humans. The K-9 is the first in Lawrence County in 10 years.
