David F. Clauss, age 86, of Bridgeport, Illinois passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. He was born on October 16, 1936 in Robinson, Illinois, the youngest of 11 children to H. Leo and Katherine (Primus) Clauss. He married Shirley L. Burton on September 19, 1959, and she preceded him in death on January 07, 1999.

David grew up in the St. Francisville area. He was a farm hand until the age of 19, when he left for employment with Caterpillar in Joliet, Illinois. He continued working there for 35 years, when he and his wife, whom he met in Mt. Carmel, raised their children in the New Lenox area. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville, a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge in Vincennes, and the Machinists Union.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, as well as eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors include three children, James D. Clauss and wife, Michelle of Frankfort, Illinois, Cynthia Clauss and husband, Marco Aleman of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Cathy Clauss Sudzius and husband, Linas of Franklin, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Jason Clauss and wife, Kari of Minooka, Illinois, Peggy Pearce and husband, Andrew of Monee, Illinois, Brandon Sudzius of LaVergne, Tennessee, Amber Sudzius of Nashville, Tennessee, Daniel Aleman of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Emily Endsley and husband, Connor of Charlotte, North Carolina; one great-grandchild, Aidan Clauss of Minooka, Illinois; one brother, Ray Clauss of Hemet, California; and one sister, Marie Moody of St. Francisville, Illinois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM CST at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, located at 1006 Collins Avenue in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Monday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM CST at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Cemetery.
