The Lawrenceville City Council met in regular session Thursday night at City Hall. With the recreational marijuana industry rapidly growing across the state of Illinois, the council took action to have ordinances in place to govern the location of dispensaries inside the city limits. They approved ordinances listing regulations for locations such as exterior displays, signage, and on site conduct. Also enacted was an ordinance clarifying that such dispensaries may only located in B-2 and B-3 (Business) zoned areas–not in residential or residential business zoned areas. The council also received a report from it’s Utilities Committee regarding a study of the city water billing practices. It was recommended that no extension for payment of overdue bills be enacted as per existing city policy. However, a statement regarding the water shutoff regulations will be printed on all customer water bills and new water customers will be given a copy when they sign up for service.  The city is also working to have the information included in their website in the future.
