The Sumner City Council met in regular session Tuesday night and did approve a continuing water purchase agreement with the South Lawrence Water Corporation. However, the council did table until January for further study and review an increase in water rates to help cover the increased costs of getting water from South Lawrence. Mayor Betty Brian indicated that the committee that is looking into the matter wanted more time to come up with an increase amount for recommendation to the full council. The council also tabled until January a proposed increase in city garbage rates for the same reasons. The council did approve the annual Corporate Tax Levy ordinance for fiscal year 2022-2023.
