Trent Masterson will remain as Lawrence County Sheriff. The Republican, who was appointed as interim sheriff earlier this year after the retirement of Russell Adams, won election to the office Tuesday. He captured 2,929 votes (58%) to outdistance his two challengers. Independent candidate St Francisville Police Chief Billy Darnell was second in the balloting with 1.494 votes (29%) and Democrat Hal Pargin was third with 669 votes (13%). Lawrence County voters backed the Republican candidates for federal and statewide offices in the balloting including Darren Bailey who was defeated by incumbent Democrat J.B. Pritzker. Voters locally voted “no” to the constitution amendment on the ballot. Voter turnout was extremely good for the election with 5,154 of the 8,780 registered voters in the county (59%) taking part.
