TIME CHANGE WEEKEND

This is the weekend for the start of Daylight Saving Time. Lawrence County residents and others will turn their clocks back 1 hour when they go to bed or at 2 a.m. when the change officially begins. It is also a good time to test residential smoke alarms and detectors. People should change the batteries if necessary and also check to see if the alarm itself needs replacement. The Illinois State Fire Marshalls Office recommends changing smoke alarms and detectors every 10 years. Starting on January 1st of 2023, Illinois state law will require newer model 10 year sealed smoke detectors in all homes built before 1988 or that do not have hard-wired alarms. According to the National Fire Protection Association, nearly three out of every five home fire deaths occur in households where there were no smoke detectors or the alarms did not work.
