Iva Winifred “Winnie” Rice Grove

Iva Winifred “Winnie” Rice Grove, 96, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

 

She was born October 29, 1926, on Route 1, in St. Francisville, IL, to James A. and Angelia (Edgell) Rice. Growing up, she was a member of Zion Church and attended Fillmore School. In 1945, she graduated from Bridgeport Township High School. On March 18, 1946, she married the love of her life, Harold W. Grove. They were married for 70 years until he passed away on November 3, 2016.

Winnie worked at Johnson Hardware and B&J Hardware for several years, volunteered at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital as a Gray Lady, and was a member of the Home Extension. She was a member of New Hope Christian Church.

Preceding her in death were: her parents; her husband; her son, Jay; infant daughter, Marcella Ann; her grandson, Doug Certain; and her three brothers, Edward, Theral, and James “Junior.”

 

She is survived by: her daughter, Gwen (Ron) Newman of Noblesville, IN: three grandchildren; Brad (Sonia) Newman of Georgetown, KY, Annie (Stuart) Hilbert of Noblesville, IN; and Lisa (Kirk) Cash of Indianapolis, IN: and six great-grandchildren; Sydney, Taylor, Nicholas, Peyton, Sebastian, and Evelyn. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law; Ruth Grove Kazmaier and Phyllis Grove: and many nieces and nephews. She loved her family and her entire community so very much, and she will be greatly missed.

 

Graveside services will be held for Winnie on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. (CST) at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. A visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. will take place on Sunday at the Cunningham-Young Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, IL.
