Alan J. Clettenberg

Alan J. Clettenberg, age 76 of rural Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born July 19, 1946 in Blue Island, IL to Walter James Clettenberg and Dorothy (Petty) Clettenberg Vogt.

On July 19, 2001, Alan married his wife, Debbie (Hughes) Wilson. They were fortunate to share 21years of unconditional love.

As a young man, Alan served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He served during the Vietnam War in Thailand and Vietnam from 1966-1968 as a hydraulic technician. Alan was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service to his country.

Once Alan returned home, he owned and operated Alan’s Automotive Corporation for 31 years. He loved working and troubleshooting problems on vehicles. Many of his customers soon became his friends. After retirement, Alan enjoyed having breakfast at the Old Thyme Diner in Vincennes with his close friends and “Breakfast Buddies”: Dr. Charles Vieck, Dick Edwards, Moe Groh, Jerry Hayes, Dick Lacy, Tommy Lee, and the late Terry Mooney.

Alan was a member of the Elks Lodge, VFW, American Legion, and NRA.

One of Alan’s favorite things was watching his grandchildren in their activities. He enjoyed playing make-believe, watching his grandsons play basketball, baseball, football, and his granddaughter in her cheerleading.

Surviving family includes: his wife of 21 years- Debbie Clettenberg: two sons- David Clettenberg and Michael Clettenberg and wife Emily: two daughters- Chastity Lyle and Barbie Morey and husband Jason: one brother- Ron Clettenberg and wife Stacey: and six grandchildren- Molly Lyle, Liam Morey, Reid Morey, Carson Clettenberg, Aaron Clettenberg, and Camden Clettenberg to arrive soon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at the Cunningham-Young Funeral Home in Lawrenceville. Visitation will take place Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial will follow services in Petty Cemetery.
