BUILDINGS COLLAPSE IN LAWRENCEVILLE

police-investigation-1-3

The 1100 block of State Street in downtown Lawrenceville remained closed as of Friday morning for public safety after portions of two buildings fell after an apparent roof collapse Thursday afternoon. Lawrenceville Police Chief Jim White and Mayor David Courtney told Lite 103 News that  structural experts have been called in to assess the situation. Preliminary reports indicate that the roof of the vacant Yosowitz building at 1109 State gave way and that led to parts of the neighboring Tykal’s American Tap bar building at 1107 State to also fall including it’s upper deck. No one was injured. Due the fear of falling debris hitting pedestrians and passing vehicles, authorities blocked off the area and re-routed traffic in a detour around the courthouse square and White said it will remain closed until the area is deemed safe. There is no firm timetable for that to happen. Those traveling are asked to be aware of the detours and use caution.
