The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that the project to remove of the bridge on Illinois Route 1 between 11th and 12th streets in the city of Mt Carmel has been delayed. That projects was to have begun this week but will now get started next week on Thursday July 7th. No word on the reason for the delay. IDOT had earlier said that instead of building a new bridge at that location, it was deemed more cost-efficient to replace the existing bridge with a road. Detours will be posted once work begins. The project is anticipated to be completed in mid to late August.
