Sylvia Sue Moody, 82, of St. Francisville, Illinois, passed at 3:42 AM, on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on November 16, 1939, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, to Woodrow and Elta (Stephens) Hollen. She married Francis “Speed” Moody on December 24, 1959, and they shared 62 years of marriage.

Sylvia was a homemaker who enjoyed baking and cooking. She treasured her family and fervently supported them in their activities and interests. She was an avid walker for most of her life. She also enjoyed her dogs, cared for many stray animals over the years, and kept the wild birds and squirrels well-fed. Additionally, she was a member of Eastern Star; volunteered innumerable hours at the St. Francisville Christian Academy as a cook, custodian, playground supervisor, and board member; helped with church dinners; and was a member of the volunteer firemen’s auxiliary for many years, being instrumental in implementing the first annual Labor Day chowder as a fund-raiser.

Preceding Sylvia in death were her parents and brother, Robert Hollen.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Francis “Speed” Moody; two children, Berdena Moody-Weber (Larry) of Effingham and Francis “Bud” Moody (companion Shelley Yockey) of St. Francisville; grandson, Michael Weber of Carmel, Indiana; brother, Charles Hollen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Loretta Moody; as well as several extended family members.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM CDT on Monday, June 20, 2022 at the Free Methodist Church in Sand Barrens, Illinois, with Pastors Irwin Bales and Jeff Marble officiating, and may be viewed with the following link: https://www.facebook.com/emmonsmaceysteffey. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the service hour of 11:00 AM CDT at the church. Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in St. Francisville. In loving memory of Sylvia, memorials may be made to the St. Francisville Senior Citizens’ Center or to Good Samaritan Hospice, in Vincennes, Indiana.
