The Bridgeport City Council met Tuesday evening at City Hall. There were two main topics of discussion. A number of citizens were on hand to address the continuing problem of animal control particularly unleashed and aggressive dogs running loose in residential neighborhood. Both Mayor Tyler Griffin and Police Chief Danny Ash said that the city will continue to attempt to alleviate the problem through more aggressive enforcement of existing animal control ordinances. This step would be taken after those owning the animals were talked to and asked to take steps to control and restrain the dogs. Another matter was the city garbage service transition. Republic Services has taken over the Atkins Sanitation operation in the city and currently working on getting caught up with pickup from the city-wide cleanup. Mayor Griffin indicated that he anticipated things to get caught up this week. He also reiterated that the residential trash pickup day has now been changed to Fridays during the week with the commercial pickup dates remaining the same.
